Oh Wildwood

When I first beheld you

I fell for you

In an instant

A falling star

Lit up your eyes

With the flame of love

I felt I was dying

I am in love

Still and ever

With you

Deep into April

with 4 comments

Deep into April

I was deep into April

And I am still

Into her flaxen hair

Flowing in the breeze

Of a hesitant spring

Into her gentle voice

Like distant wind chimes

Echoing through the air

Into her touch

Like snowflakes on your face

When you look to heaven

Into her laughter

Youthful and innocent

Refreshing like summer rain

Into her scent

Like that of honeysuckle

Subtly intoxicating

Into her kisses

Tasting of life’s essence

And sweet summer wine

Into her gentleness

Like that of a fawn

Timid yet unmissable

Into her loveliness

Unforgettably etched on my heart

Leaving me breathless

Into her spirit

Encompassing my soul

Like the arms of an angel

I was deep into April

And I am still

I saw you waltz
across the wide expanse
of emerald lawn
You wore a sapphire sky
in the indolent air of aging June
Sunrays played upon your hair
You held her hand
I saw you smile
like no one can
I heard your laughter
Its musical notes danced
in the dreamy languorous mood
of midday
I heard you say her name
I looked at her
I was amazed
at her matter-of-factly composure
How could she not be in awe
of the goddess
granting her such attention?

Within the moment
I wished
I had been born different

I have trespassed

A burden to others

I do not want to be

To share and put upon others

This endless darkness

Relentless hopelessness

I withdraw

I shall seek strength

In the desert within

Endless dunes of solitude

Though somber shadows

Seek to surround me

These vultures observe from above

Slowly circling

Relentlessly circling

Waiting for me to falter

Hoping for me to fall

But I shall not fear

I shall strive on

Seeking an oasis

And hope

For inner peace

Asking nothing

Of anyone

And should my time here be done

I shall rest upon the sand

And sleep

And perhaps awaken

To a sky free of vultures

Write Me a Poem

with one comment

Write Me A Poem

Write me a poem
You said
A pretty poem
With birds singing
Trees swaying in gentle breeze
Butterflies fluttering in fragrant air
Sun shining
In sapphire sky
Happy children playing
In fields of rainbow flowers
And cherry blossom snow
Until the mystical moon tucks them in
Their cozy beds and dreams
A poem with fireflies
Like dancing stars

And… you know…
…Write me a poem like that
You said

But I cannot
For my mind is oppressed
With images of war
Dying soldiers
Never coming home
Suicide bombers
Guns and tanks
Climate change
Dying oceans
Drying rivers
Burning forests
And folks who have given up
So I cannot write your pretty poem
My love

Across the Ocean

with 2 comments

Across the OceanBrittany coast.jpg

I was conceived

Beyond the ocean

Years ago

Long after I had been born here

I went back to the place

Across the ocean

Where I first began

Or so my father showed me

That was a year before

I was blessed with my first child

By some coincidence of time and place

She was begun there as well

That summer

In the land of my ancestors

The Celts

In Brittany

I come from across the ocean

But I am home here

Although I appreciate

My beginnings

Dark Dream

with 2 comments

Dark Dream

Dim dreamscape

Dark skeletal trees

Crows peering down

From a starless sky

Your face appears

Your eyes seem sad

You keep looking at me

Perhaps disdainfully even

Coal black icicles

Beneath your eyes

Frozen tears?

And then

The stark dark realization

I am looking at the mirror

In my soul

Those frozen tears

Are not from your eyes

But from mine

My heart melts with sorrow

The light goes out

And with it hope

I am not feeding the crows anymore

For there’s nothing left of me
